Ever since I started learning to crochet, I've been obsessed with the cupcake hat. It was the first hat i had even made for Emily, who was 8 months old at the time, and while i was super excited when i finished it, looking back it was a pretty mediocre. Still, i stuck it on her head proudly. I'm apparently not over the cupcake hat, since i decided to make her a second one. She'll be 2 tomorrow! Gah, I can still remember her baby smell and how comfortably she fit into my arms, time sure does fly...
I'm in love with this hat, and it's the only reason why i'm glad its still breezy here in NYC. She's already gotten compliments and she's only worn it once while out for a walk.
Again, my inspiration and pattern came from RepeatCrafterMe's cupcake hat (I adore her blog entirely). While she only has the pattern for a 3 month old, I've adjusted the pattern to fit a toddler 2-4 years, it fits my soon-to-be 2 year old and 4 year old niece. The adjustments can be made by following RepeatCrafterMe's Owl hat pattern, which is also just a basic DC hat pattern with tips on how to have a seamless edge. Follow the pattern to the size needed, then go back to the pattern for the cupcake hat and use pattern for the shell part of the cupcake and so on. It's simple really, and I only used those two patterns to create this.
I've also added it to my Etsy shop if your interested in purchasing one. Thanks for stopping by!
